Andrew Lassise was the head of the information technology department of a remote technical support company when the business went under. Lassise turned this setback into an opportunity by making an agreement with the business owner that Lassise would continue to provide support to his boss’s existing clients. He launched Rush Tech Support in 2014 and has been growing ever since.
He says, “I was able to handle the customer base from my living room and slowly started growing from one employee in my living room to forty with 6 offices in a few years.”
Lassise’s business took off right away. Between the first and second years, sales jumped from $33,000 to $1.7 million. After Lassise sought mentoring from SCORE, sales in his third year climbed to $4.5 million.
How SCORE Helped
Though Lassise’s company was already successful, he decided to seek mentoring from SCORE “to make sure I didn’t lose what I had.” SCORE mentor Jerry Steinberg helped Lassise with human resources, marketing, branding and increasing revenue.
"He taught me about making a proper business plan and how to effectively grow our sales force,” says Lassise. “Immediately after our first meeting, we got new sales in untapped markets the next day. He helped me notice opportunities that weren’t in my direct sight.”
Lassise now advises other small business owners to seek mentoring from SCORE early on. “I was extremely fortunate that without a proper mentor or guidance that my company has grown as successfully as it has. I know that my experience is far from ordinary,” he says.
