Massage therapy and physical therapy are practices that help maintain and improve body function and conditioning. Physical therapy, a medical profession, provides care to individuals with body injuries and pain, which may include therapeutic exercises and manual techniques. On the other hand, massage therapy is an alternative medicine comprised of structured movements that are used to manipulate muscles and ligaments. Committed to a holistic approach for their clients, Pro-Active Muscle Therapy (http://www.proactivemuscletherapy.com/) provides not only massage therapy, but a network of qualified physical therapists, nutritionists and chiropractors for a personalized treatment plan. Ann Hughes founded Pro-Active Therapy LLC in 2006. After completing her studies at the Pennsylvania School of Muscle Therapy, Hughes received her certification from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB). She is committed to employing the latest technology and methods in her work and as part of her continuing education, has completed specific courses in Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy, CranioFascial Therapy, Cranio Sacral Therapy, OrthoBionomy and Lymphatic Therapy. Through 2014, Hughes remained the sole proprietor, traveling to clients and working from a small home studio.
With a desire to expand her business, she attended the SCORE Simple Steps Business Planning Workshop, SCORE seminars and several personal meetings with a SCORE counselor. With the guidance and help of SCORE counselor, Steve Crumrine, Hughes relocated her business to a professional location in The Village of Nottingham in Southern Pennsylvania. Crumrine challenged Hughes to plan for the present and future with 1, 3 and 5 year horizons. They worked together to create a business plan which included extensive financial forecasting and relevant cash flow processes. Crumrine identified time management skills and goal setting as areas of importance for Hughes to emphasize in order to reach her goals. As a result, Hughes’ business has flourished and currently includes two full time massage therapists as well as one full-time and one part-time administrative assistant. Hughes continues to further expand her business at her current location, and has even considered franchising, so don’t be surprised if you see Pro-Active Muscle Therapy LLC in your area soon!
