How SCORE helped.

Walnut Street Labs

Tech business is not new to Chester County, but a tech business incubator is. The first of its kind in our area, Walnut St. Labs (WSL), located in downtown West Chester, is a startup incubator and “innovation hub” -- it offers co-working, as well as a number of events.

WSL encourages collaboration and the exchange of ideas that can lead to the creation of new businesses to meet the needs of the ever-changing world that we live in.

Officially opening its doors in October 2013, Walnut St. Labs holds a weekly Startup Meetup that bring in new and experienced entrepreneurs to share their trials, tribulations and vision as startup leaders. WSL also hosts Night 0wls on Wednesday nights, where you can work on, talk about or even demo what you’re working on. Participants can get effective feedback from WSL’s large network of developers, designers and all-around technologists. WSL also encourages local film makers by holding a monthly Indie Film Night (WSL is hoping to attract local film maker, director and screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan).
With WSL’s already very positive track record, it would not be a surprise if they succeeded.

As an incubator, Walnut St. Labs provides expertise in strategy, management, marketing, product development and business development for early-stage startups. One such company is called MongoSluice, a big data application. The analysis of massive amounts of data (terabytes) is a time consuming and often arduous process. And analysis is often best done in traditional, non-big data tools based on RDBMS technology -- that’s rows and columns. MongoSluice is software that moves data back and forth from new database technology to traditional, saving time and bringing analysis close to real-time. MongoSluice recently finished a Proof of Concept with one of the largest consumer health sites and is developing partnerships with some of the largest big data companies in the world.
