Annual Progress Report

2021 ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT

As the pandemic crisis extended into 2021, our volunteers remained ‘laser focused’ on ‘recovery and resilience to help small businesses get back to growth. Mentoring programs were initiated with the City of Coatesville and online retailers in the Qurate Small Business Spotlight program to support underserved entrepreneurs.  Our services and annual awards celebration continued to be offered virtually, exploiting technology, to enable face-to-face connections.

► Diversity Business Forum

Saturday, Feb. 26th
Delaware County Community College
Hosted by: Senator Tim Kearney and
Rep. Gina H. Curry

Three panels shared the services and programs available to diverse entrepreneurs. Mercedes Diaz, SCORE Chairperson, led the first-panel discussion about what it takes to start a small business, emphasizing the three T’s: Temperament, Tenacity, and Time.

Updates were shared by the Delaware County and African American Chambers and various community partners. Open bids, contracts, and job opportunities were highlighted for local black and diverse businesses by regional and national companies such as Amtrak, PHL Airport, Wawa, AT&T, and PennDOT.

Volunteer Observations:

Charlie Cullum, Mentor, was
“…encouraged and enthusiastic about ways that [SCORE] may be able to partner with diverse organizations to help make a difference in underserved communities.”

Ila Awasthi, Mentor and Subject Matter Expert was
“… impressed with the number of people who stopped at the table to say that they have received help from a SCORE mentor in the past and how much they appreciated it. Also to see the spirit of entrepreneurship in the community.... plus most of them were women!...”
